Question by Lori: Nikon coolpix “this card can not be used”?
I was in the middle of a trip to italy when my camera read “this card can not be used” and I couldnt do anything on it. I tried getting my pictures off of the card by putting it into a card reader in my pc. It doesnt pop up that there is even a card in there. Is there any way to retrieve my pictures?

It sounds like your card was corrupted, and will possibly no longer work (although it MIGHT work again after a format).

I do believe you have learned your lesson – download photos as soon as you come home from a shoot, and back them up!!!!!! Then FORMAT the card rather than just deleting the photos, since that increases your chances of the card not developing problems and failing.

For right now, I hope you didn’t take anymore photos with that card. If you did, then you’re out of luck because that would have overwritten the files.

If you haven’t, then google for some image recovery programs. There are plenty of them out there (one of them is called “recuva”), but strangely enough not everyone seems to always work, sometimes it takes several programs to get the photos back, but you should have a reasonable chance of getting at least most of them back.
